Insecurity; driving achievement since 0 B.C.
I was all set to write this morning how insecurity is the least useful human condition. How self-limiting and self-fulfilling it is, how annoying it is to the people who love you. But then I thought of how many people I know or am aware of who spend their entire lives trying to achieve their way out of their insecurities. Sublimating insecurity with achievement generally proves unsuccessful at addressing the actual issues, but the world is often better, or sometimes terribly worse (Hitler, anyone?) for it.

Deep thoughts first thing in the morning.
I dont know if Hitler was insecure so much as he was angry. And diabolically insane, which certainly helps in the old mass-murder/conquest for world domination department. But I suppose maybe insecure. That syphilis he supposedly suffered from couldn't have helped his confidence much. Anyone know if its really true that he suffered from that? Or is that just a myth?
J&N: Deep thoughts is my thang. Even first thing in the morning. :-)
Lodo: I don't know about Hitler's syphilis but I do think angry or not, he was insecure. Many people try to make that point in various ways; rumors/myths/urban legends about the state of his testicles (missing one, undescended), his failed attempt to become an artist, etc...but I think the common theme is his abiding insecurity. Something that helped him tap into the resentment of the time.
Yeah, I've heard that too. "Hitler was missing a testicle." How the hell did they find that out?!
